Reminder OVP Volunteer Fair Thursday 9/19 10a-2p

Dozens of community agencies and student service organizations (SSOs) gather each September in the Illini Union I-Rooms ABC to provide information about how to get involved as a volunteer in the Champaign-Urbana community. No pre-registration is needed, but bring your Illinois ID! Swipe in and meet agency staff, get info on current volunteer opportunities & application processes, and how to fit giving back into your busy schedule!
 
September is HUNGER ACTION MONTH!Take advantage of the following volunteer opportunities and chances to help fight hunger in East Central Illinois. Find out more at: https://www.facebook.com/hungeractionatillinois.
Help OVP Fight Hunger by collecting canned food, and bringing it to the Quad to donate during CANS ACROSS THE QUAD, Monday, September 30, from 12-5p. Other upcoming events are:
  • A Place at the Table – Film Screening, Monday, September 16 at 7:00pm
Levis Faculty Center, 919 W Illinois St, Urbana, Illinois – this documentary film shows the experiences of hungry families in rural and urban areas
  • Take the SNAP Hunger Challenge, September 1521 Try to eat for a week by spending just $5 a day! Blog or post about your experience at http://go.illinois.edu/hunger.
  • Panel Discussion on Food Insecurity, Monday, September 23 at 7:00pm
    Levis Faculty Center, 919 W Illinois St, Urbana, Illinois – Follow up to film screening  hear from regional poverty and hunger experts; contribute your ideas on how we can end hunger!

Feed Your Brain Variety Show (November 7th): The Feed Your Brain Variety Show seeks to promote awareness about issues relate to hunger and homelessness by combining elements of entertainment and education. This variety show allows students to express themselves through music, theatre, dance, etc. and allows community agency representatives to promote information about volunteer opportunities related to these topics that students can get involved with.
 
National Hunger and Homelessness Week (November 10th-16th)
Interested in joining the fight against hunger and homelessness? Volunteer activities scheduled throughout this week help those most in need in Champaign-Urbana and surrounding communities. Typical volunteer events include food pantries and home builds. Typical philanthropy events include: fundraisers, Thanksgiving Basket Drive, and more! Typical educational events include: hunger banquets and mini-volunteer fairs.
 
Service Ambassador Program (January 30th−For freshman and sophomore students)
Be an ambassador for change! Join OVP’s Service Ambassador Program, an 8-week service learning certificate course designed to help passionate individuals take their service to the next level. The program combines theoretical, practical, and creative outlooks on service-learning, volunteerism, and community development. Participation is limited to first-years and sophomores only.
