N fertilization effect on soil decomposition

Paper on investigating litter decomposition data provides the proof of the “Nitrogen mining” that microbe deompose recalcitrant carbon only under nitrogen limited environment. As the outgrowth, N fertilization can decrease microbial activity and also the decomposition rate, which is to the opposite of our previous understanding. http://www.esajournals.org/doi/abs/10.1890/06-1847.1
