N fertilization effect on soil decomposition

Paper on investigating litter decomposition data provides the proof of the “Nitrogen mining” that microbe deompose recalcitrant carbon only under nitrogen limited environment.¬†As the outgrowth, N fertilization can decrease microbial activity and also the decomposition rate, which is to the opposite of our previous understanding. http://www.esajournals.org/doi/abs/10.1890/06-1847.1
