The R4 is an interdisciplinary research group in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Our group is dedicated to advance risk-informed decision making methodologies for risk management of built-environment subjected to natural and man-made hazards.

We integrate fundamental knowledge of probability and statistics, structural engineering and decision science to better understand the catastrophes that involve structural damage and failure and to develop decision-aiding platforms for engineering projects that aim for resilient and sustainable built-infrastructure. Research in the R4 Group falls into one or more of the following categories: Hazard modeling, Damage modeling, and Decision modeling.
