Dr. Lopez has dedicated her career to ameliorating health inequities through community-based participatory research and through clinical trials that assess telecommunications technology to facilitate access to clinical care and education. Lopez has recognized expertise in cancer prevention and telemedicine, and has approximately 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and multiple book chapters. She has been continuously funded in health disparities research.

Keynote Topic: Focusing on Health Equity Research to Improve Health Care Outcomes

Background: Humans live within communities. The influence of social factors on health and well-being is significant. Enhancing our understanding of these factors generates testable hypotheses regarding the impact of modifiable factors on health and well-being. This systems approach to health engages all members of the community in supporting the health of its members and may result in improved health care outcomes that are sustainable over time.
