Basic Science/Social Science/Humanities Oral Presentation Requirements

Basic Science/Social Science/Humanities Oral Presentation Requirements

Senior MSP students are encouraged to deliver an oral presentation of their research at the Research Symposium. Due to scheduling limitations, it may not be possible to honor all student requests for oral presentations. Preference will be given to students who are more senior in their research program and who have not previously had the opportunity to present their work at either the annual MSP Fall Retreat or College of Medicine Research Symposium.

Potential oral presenters will be contacted shortly after the abstract submission deadline regarding the status of their submission. Those individuals who submitted an oral presentation request but were not selected are encouraged to present a poster.

  1. Presenters will need to deliver a 10-minute talk highlighting the clinical aspects/applications of their research. Because the talk is only 10 minutes, presenters should plan to limit the amount of primary data that is presented and instead focus on providing the background and general approach of the research studies and the significance of results to date. The challenge for presenters is to tailor the presentation for a diverse audience comprised of pre M1 students through practicing physicians.
  2. Talks will be followed by a 5-minute question and answer session.
  3. On the Presentation Submission website page please provide a title and abstract of the presentation, a brief biographical sketch, and a picture of yourself for us to include in the program booklet. Also provide us with any special A/V needs under “comments and special instructions” section of the website.
  4. A required rehearsal will be held. We will be in touch with presenters with further details.
  5. Presentations will be judged according to several criteria. The evaluation form for judges is provided here: Oral Presentation Evaluation Form
  6. There is a student speakers committee that will be contacting you and helping you. Please direct any questions to them.
CME Credit

Physician attendees will receive 0.75 CME credits.
