of the total numerical score achieved on exams and homework.
Component | Weight |
Final exam (Dec. 18th, 8-11 AM) | 30% of grade |
Hourly Exam 1 (in class, Sept. 27, 4-5 PM) | 15% of grade |
Hourly Exam 2 (in class, Oct. 30): | 15% of grade |
Hourly Exam 3 (in class, Nov 29th): | 15% of grade |
Quizzes | 10% of grade. There will be 12 surprise quizzes, each worth 10 points. The two lowest scores on these quizzes will be dropped. Quizzes will regularly be motivated by homework problems or the previous lectures. There will be NO makeup quizzes (don’t even ask). Note: a very useful habit in college is to be in your seat and thinking about a subject when a class starts. Although it is of course unsettling, having surprise quizzes at the beginning of a class is a very simple way of ensuring that this happens |
Written homework: | 15% of grade. Written homeworks are due within the first 10 minutes of class. No late homeworks will be accepted. None. Can you turn your homework assignment in late? No. We grade some subset of the assigned homework. Some of this HW may involve some group coding assignments. |
Logistical notes:
- Exam 1 will start at 4 PM; there will be no class 3:30-4
