Meet our Officers

Tori Daniels – President 

Hey PVC! My name is Tori Daniels, AnSci senior, and I am serving as your 2018-2019 President. I can’t believe this is my fourth year on the board and second year as President! I have been working in dairy cattle research lab since sophomore year and this has brought me to pursue graduate school studying dairy science. This past summer I was a research intern at the William H Miner Agricultural Research Institute in upstate New York where I ran my own project looking at different colostrum storage methods. I also have a cat back home, Chester, and on campus I have a syrian hamster named Rosie!

Colleen Dugan – Vice President   

Hi my name is Colleen Dugan. I am a Senior in Animal Science and I am you Vice President this year. This is my second year on the board, last year I served as one of the Fundraising Co-Chairs. I have been interested in rehab and orthopedics since my freshman year and plan on applying to vet school this next cycle. I currently work at Sports Vet as a veterinary assistant and at the U of I Small Animal teaching hospital in medical records.

Kylee Whitely – Treasurer

Hi! My name is Kylee and I’m your treasurer for this year. I am currently a junior majoring in Animal Sciences. I am on the pre-vet track, with an interest in shelter medicine. This is my third year in the club, and first being an officer. While here on campus, I work at the Large Animal Clinic at Vet Med. I also work for Dr. McCoy on her equine research project. Back home I have a horse, 3 dogs, and I foster for my local humane society. This is a picture of my horse Classy & I, whom I barrel race with.

Laura Olander – Secretary

Hi! I’m Laura and I’m currently a senior in Animal Sciences minoring in Chemistry. I just finished applying to vet school and I’m interested in pursuing a pathology specialization. This is my second year on the board. This summer I had a internship working with beef cattle in Southern Illinois. I have also studied abroad, worked in many research labs, shadowed lots of vets, and done many of the programs and wet labs through PVC, so if you have any questions about any of those things, feel free to reach out to me! I can also tell you more about the vet school application process since it’s fresh in my mind!

Juliann Qui – Public Relations

Hey! My name is Juliann and I’m your public relations officer. I am currently a junior majoring in Animal Sciences. I’m interested in nutrition and how this affects neurobiology. I am also interested in companion animal chiropractic/acupuncture. Over the summer, I  was in Dr. Dilger’s lab researching nutritional content of various samples. I am also currently doing research with Dr. Drackley about the digestibility of different grains and milk replacers on calves. Over the summer, I interned at the Champaign County Humane Society as a medical intern. I have a dog named Lily, and three turtles.

Juliette Nye – Programs Coordinator

Hey everyone! I am your other programs coordinator for this year along with my awesome partner, Sam Islas. I am a senior pursuing a dual-degree in Animal Sciences and French Studies. My job will be to provide you all with amazing shadowing opportunities at the veterinary school in multiple different departments, both so that you can get a better idea of what veterinary medicine in practice is like and to help decide if this is the right career for you! I am interested in going into a career in zoo and conservation medicine. In Summer 2017, I was an animal care intern at Brookfield Zoo at Hamill Family Play Zoo, Animal Ambassadors, and Wild Encounters, where I worked with over 150 different species. I have also done research on campus in both dairy nutrition and ovarian cancer using chickens as a model for the human female reproductive tract. This past summer, I studied abroad in South Africa and Botswana for 5 weeks, learning more about wildlife veterinary medicine, human-wildlife conflict, and animal management strategies! Sam Islas – Programs Coordinator

Hello everyone! My name is Samantha Islas and I am a senior in Animal Sciences. I, along with Juliette, will be your programs coordinator during the 2018-2019 academic year. I am ecstatic to be in this position so that I can provide you all with many opportunities to continue growing your lists of animal experiences. In the past, I have studied abroad to Costa Rica to partake in the VIDA Volunteer study abroad program and have interned at different veterinary hospitals over the past couple of summers. During the school year, I enjoy volunteering at a goat farm off campus called Prairie Fruits Farm and Creamery. This past summer I interned at a veterinary hospital in Morris that enjoys specializing in new, advanced veterinary technologies. I love working with both large and small animals. I also have an English Springer Spaniel named Harley, who lives at home. On top of all that, I hold a steady part time position as a Head Cashier at Menards.

Klaudia Czaban – Fundraising 

Hello everyone, my name is Klaudia Czaban. I am a senior in Animal Sciences. I am interested in osteology and physiology and have done research in nutrition and biomechanics. I have worked at the meatlab, the dairy, been, a teacher’s assistant, and in medical records at vet med. Don’t hesitate to email me any questions you might have about any of those! I have a leopard gecko names Finnegan, a chinese dwarf hamster names Echo, and a Tibetan Spaniel who lives with my parents. This is my second year as one of the fundraising coordinators on the board. We have some new opportunities this year and I can’t wait to work with everyone!

Giana Bytnar- Fundraising

Hi! My name is Giana and I am serving as one of the fundraising coordinators this year! I am a sophomore in animal science. Here on campus I’m involved in Illini Service Dogs, research on the dairy, and I’m in a professional agricultural sorority. Over the summer I worked at a doggie-daycare and shadowed at a local animal hospital. I have two dogs, a boston terrier and a black lab, and their names are Vito and Vivian. I also have two cats, Iddy and Zoey. I am so excited for this upcoming year!

Kathleen Yang – ACES Council Representative 

Hi everyone! My name is Kathleen and I’m your ACES Council Representative. I am currently a junior majoring in Integrative Biology while minoring in Animal Sciences, so if you have any questions about the parallels or differences between the two, please feel free to come talk to me. I currently work in Dr. Kukekova’s lab researching fox DNA and over the summer I interned at a 24/7 vet hospital. I have two cats, Sherlock and Annabelle, a rabbit, Toby, and a tortoise named Scooter. I look forward to seeing all of you guys at meetings!
