The Indian food ministry is setting up more modern grain silos in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. The government currently has about 64 million tonnes of storage space, of which 20-25 million tonnes are temporary. The rush to add more grain storage facilities is in response to a 10 million tonne increase in this year’s harvest over last year.
