Information about Winter Semester 2014-15

Are you ready to take an online course?

These courses target students who are enrolled in the Business Minor Program, or College of Business students who are studying abroad or completing an internship away from the UIUC campus.

This might be your first experience as online student, and it is important that you are ready for this experience. Learning online may be more convenient, but the time commitment,  responsibilities and type of work demanded in an online course is very similar to a face-to-face course. Additionally, not all learners thrive in an online course environment. Please complete this short quiz to determine whether online learning is right for you. (Illinois Online Network)

Requirements for Online Students in the College of Business

Our online courses include multimedia and interactive activities that require certain technical access and proficiency. If you will be spending the semester in another country, it is very important that you ensure that your location will have access to a high-speed internet connection. A wired connection is better than a wireless connection if at all possible. Please view the page on Technical Requirements for more information.

In addition, we recommend updating the following onto your computer whenever a new update is released:

  • Operating system (i.e., Windows, Mac OS)
  • Adobe Flash Player
  • Adobe Reader
  • Java
  • Browser (Firefox and Safari work best with Compass)

All online courses in the College of Business begin with an online orientation designed to get students familiar with the design of the course and the types of activities involved.  The online orientation requires completion of a few short activities and must be completed prior to the first day of class.
