Additional Feature Requests

Enter any additional features that we didn’t cover in the options above that you think would be useful on a smartphone, pad or tablet?

  • Laser cutter reservations
  • N/a
  • Information about the tables that set up daily on the quad so I know if I should stop by.
  • It was hard to navigate UIUC by smartphone at first. Google is by far the best source, better than the campus website maps, which are almost unusable for mobile.
  • The map would be so helpful with all the abbreviations that are put on our schedule when we register, it often takes me Googling and asking around to 5 people before I figure out some of the building abbreviations.
  • Blackboard app may shut down suddenly, bugs need to be fixed
  • A connection service to search and identify student groups and organizations. May be a problem for frat houses fighting, but very useful for everyone else if they want to keep track of several group events – perhaps easier for the group organizers too since it’s a simple way to remind a large number of people with little work.
  • Continuing from the campus events schedule and info, I think it’d be neat to have a feature to add an event to your mobile device’s calendar.
  • Possibly an app or something that allows you to see who else is in your lecture/discussion/class or major and have a safe way to contact them, like say via e-mail or facebook message. Or find a way to contact with students who have already taken the class and are willing to help students currently in the class.
  • pay tuition
  • NFC based student card authorization via app (for library, doors, Rec, etc.)
  • Conflating smartphone and tablet makes my answers here almost meaningless.
  • Also a better way to view your grades. And to view email
  • N/A
  • different email app!
  • Bus service information
  • All of the “ADVISING/REGISTRATION/RECORDS” would be great on a tablet/phone.
  • The learn.illinois.edu (moodle) should have an app like compass/blackboard does.
  • Doing something like building occupancy by counting how many people are connected to a specific set of routers (i.e. those in Grainger) would be really, really helpful in judging where might be a good place to study.
  • Bus route information
  • If possible it would be useful to have bus routes through the CUMTD service on campus as well as their scheduled times according to the user’s location using GPS
  • bus app
  • Wifi that works
  • Bus system
  • Replacing physical textbooks
  • The current U of I app is basically a second home screen, and I then have to select a sub-app to run. This isn’t exactly the best design. It would be nice, for example, if there were an ‘advising’ app with just the features you mentioned in that section, and then things like library services could be in their own other app. In addition, things like campus maps are handled extremely well by google maps and possibly similar apps, so I don’t think it’s worth putting resources into making a new map app just for campus.
  • Any and all work you could do with The Writer’s Workshop, or other tutoring services on campus, would benefit students. This can be to help students bring in whatever device they have, share their work with a tutor, and together work on it.
  • email and calendar as well as being able to fill out surveys like this.
  • Schedules for reservable rooms (study rooms in libraries, pools in campus rec, etc.)
  • n/a
