Harry S. Truman Scholarship Information Session and Workshop

The National and International Scholarships Program is offering a two-day event about the Harry S. Truman Scholarship.  The Truman Scholarship offers $30,000 towards graduate study in public service fields.  Only Juniors are eligible for the award. On October 13, attendants will receive an overview of the scholarship as well as get to talk to a former Truman Scholarship recipient from UI.  On October 14, the Scholarships Program will offer a workshop on how to write a competitive scholarship packet.  Students are encouraged to attend both events.

Thursday, Oct. 13th,  3:30-4:30   Information session & discussion w/ former Truman Scholar.

Friday, Oct. 14th,  3:30-4:30   Workshop on how to craft a Truman Application.

 *Both sessions held in the Illini Union Bookstore, 5th Floor, Rm 514.

The Illinois Club Scholarship Program

The Illinois Club is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2017-2018 academic year. The awards offered are:

  • Seven-Nine (7-9) combined Make-A-Difference Awards & Isabelle Purnell Education Awards of $2,500
  • One (1) Judith Life Ikenberry Fine Arts of $3,400
  • One (1) Global Focus Award of $2,500

To qualify, an applicant must:

  • Be an undergraduate with at least 60 earned credit hours by the end of Fall 2016
  • Have a GPA of 2.75 or above
  • Graduate no earlier than December 2017

The application deadline is Saturday, October 15, 5:00PM (an application, resume, essay, and Self-Service Integrate documents are required, so start early!)

Applicants will be notified via e-mail when applications are received. Semifinalists will be interviewed January 21 or 28. Winners will be honored at a Scholarship Awards Brunch on March 4, 2017.

2016-17 Scholarship Applications Now Open

Alexandra H. Hauser 2016-2017 Scholarship Application

The $1,500 Hauser scholarship seeks to support LAS undergraduates who have a full sibling with Down syndrome. Applicants should demonstrate their experience with people with disabilities—especially Down syndrome—and complete a 500-word essay on their relationship with their sibling. Applicants are encouraged to learn more about the Hausers and their generous gift. The scholarship is renewable for up to 3 years as long as the recipient continues to meet eligibility criteria.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Have a full sibling with Down Syndrome
  • Be at least a sophomore in standing (30 Illinois credit hours) by Fall 2016
  • Be an Illinois resident
  • Be enrolled full-time in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Applications are due by Wednesday, June 1 at 11:59PM.

Diana B. Younger 2016-2017 Scholarship Application

The Younger scholarship was established to memorialize Diana B. Younger who was a tireless supporter of education during her lifetime. The $3,300 scholarship aims to assist students who have worked to support themselves and is renewable for up to 3 years as long as the recipient continues to meet eligibility criteria.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be a first semester sophomore beginning a second year at Illinois in Fall 2016
  • be enrolled full-time in a major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • have a cumulative Illinois GPA of 3.25 or higher
  • have significant financial need (as verified through a current FAFSA) and be employed at least part-time to assist in supporting themselves

ASM Undergraduate and Post-Baccalaureate Funding

ASM Undergraduate Research Capstone Program

To enhance the professional development skills of students after their research experiences and provide the resources to transition to disciplinary scientific meetings.

Deadline: January 20, 2016

Eligible candidates: undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students

  • Receive up to $1,500 in travel support to the ASM Research Capstone Institute and ASM Microbe Meeting (if abstract is accepted)
  • Participate in the ASM Research Capstone Institute (professional development and presentation techniques training) prior to presenting research at the ASM Microbe Meeting
  • Present research at the ASM Microbe Meeting
  • Receive recognition in ASM publications

Application:

  1. Complete the Capstone application
  2. Submit an abstract directly to the ASM

ASM Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program

To provide undergraduate students (pursuing graduate careers in microbiology) the opportunity to conduct full time research at their home institutions with an ASM member and present research results at the ASM Microbe Meeting the following year.

Deadline: February 1, 2016

Eligible candidates: undergraduate students only (Note: seniors may apply if they are not graduating in May/June 2016. If they are completing their studies throughout the fall semester. As long as the student is classified as an undergraduate student during the summer months, they are qualified.)

  • Earn up to $4,000 in student stipend
  • Receive up to $1,000 in travel support to the ASM Microbe Meeting (if abstract is accepted)
  • Participate in the ASM Research Capstone Institute (professional development and presentation techniques training) prior to presenting research at the ASM Microbe Meeting
  • Present research at the ASM Microbe Meeting
  • Receive recognition in ASM publications
  • Each applicant must be an ASM member to qualify for the award. Students may apply for membership while completing the application.

Jenner Family Summer Research Internship

The School of Molecular and Cellular Biology has received a generous donation from Dr. Kris Jenner and his family of Annapolis, Maryland to fund premier awards providing $5,000 toward a summer research stipend (to be paid hourly) for undergraduate MCB and Biochemistry majors to provide the basis for a Senior Research Thesis in MCB or Biochemistry.
