The purpose of the Golden Apple Scholars Program is to recruit talented students who want to become teachers and want to make a difference by teaching in schools of need in Illinois. The program proved financial assistance and mentoring.
College freshmen and sophomores are eligible to apply for the scholarship: www.goldenapple.org/apply
Interested candidates should meet the following criteria:
- 22 ACT and a minimum English/Writing score of 19
- Resident of Illinois
- Legally present in the US – currently unable to accept DACA students
The scholars program provides the following financial support:
- Residential Summer Institutes with $2000 stipends per summer
- Tuition assistance
- $2500 for sophomore year
- $5000 for junior year
- $5000 for senior year
Golden Apple Scholars agree to teach in an Illinois school of need for 5 years. Additionally Golden Apple provides job placement assistance including job coaches and access to the Golden Apple Scholars job board, mentoring during early years of teaching and access to a network of excellent like minded teachers.
Applications are due 5 weeks after students are “nominated” (self nominations are accepted). The last date nominations will be received is December 1 with the application then due at the end of December.
