The purpose of this workshop is to raise the profile of the MGI in the Midwest. The meeting will pull together regional universities, industry and government stakeholders to discuss challenges such as top research problems, data sharing and education needs associated with MGI.

Key questions to be addressed at the workshop will be:

  • What are the most critical advancements needed in experimental and computational tools?
  • How can we encourage genuine collaboration across computation, theory, experiment and data science within the materials R&D community?
  • What models of a public-private partnership would be most successful in driving the MGI vision forward?
  • What role can industry play in defining the skills and expertise that the next generation of materials scientists and engineers will require to fully implement and utilize MGI techniques in industrial settings?
  • What are successful models for government-industry-university collaboration that the MGI should seek to replicate or scale?
  • What infrastructure is necessary to facilitate sharing tools, techniques, expertise and data across both industry and academia as well as throughout the manufacturing supply chain?
