The IT Manager Development Program, or MGRdev for short (“manager dev”) is a hands-on, skills-based IT manager training program founded on research and led by experienced IT managers.  The program is designed to be very interactive and seeks to help participants improve management skills over a series of six monthly workshops. The main topics of each of the monthly workshops include:

  1. Personal Effectiveness: priority setting; planning; managing email and time
  2. Coaching: how to motivate and develop people to improve their skills; delegation
  3. Performance Management: setting expectations; conducting effective performance appraisals; handling tough people issues
  4. Career Development: succession planning; keeping people engaged through career coaching; tips for new managers
  5. Team Development: how to facilitate team meetings; the importance of shared team goals, equity/fairness and camaraderie; understanding culture
  6. Hiring and Staffing: how to select the best person for the job; using interview questions to predict future performance on the job; onboarding new employees

Each workshop builds on the previous workshop to help participants develop skills from personal effectiveness to managing individual staff members to building teams.  Participants will also receive one-on-one coaching throughout the program from experienced managers within the MGRdev facilitator team.
