Janet Swatscheno has been selected to participate in the pilot of the SPARC Open Education Leadership Program, a new professional development initiative aimed at empowering open education leaders within academic libraries. The program is the first of its kind, providing intensive training over two semesters to support the use, creation, and advocacy of open educational resources and practices, with emphasis on leadership skills. Swatscheno is one of fourteen fellows from SPARC member libraries to selected participate in the pilot, and as part of the program, attended the 14th annual Open Education Conference in Anaheim, CA.
Beth Woodard, Staff Development and Training Librarian and Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been recognized by the iSchool Alumni Association (ISAA). She received a 2017 Distinguished Alumnus Award, an award given to an individual alumnus of the School of Information Sciences who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of library and information science.
William Maher, University Archivist and Professor of Library Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is one of four faculty members honored with Campus Awards for Excellence in Faculty Leadership. Additionally, Maher has been chosen to receive the Chancellor’s Medallion this June, one of the highest honors available on campus.
Antonio Sotomayor, Latin American & Caribbean Studies Librarian and Assistant Professor at the University Library at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has won the José Toribio Medina Book Award from The Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials (SALALM).
