This October, Lori Mestre, Head of the Undergraduate Library, published her book, Designing Effective Library Tutorials: A Guide for Accommodating Multiple Learning Styles. According to the publisher, Chandos Publishing,
“Designing Effective Library Tutorials provides examples of, and steps for, how to create tutorials that match learning styles, based on usability studies of students from various cultural groups and styles of learning. The book presents studies, practical suggestions, and examples to assist librarians and faculty as they develop online programs for students from diverse learning styles. Research on learning style preferences in the online environment emphasizes the need to provide a variety of methods that include text, aural, visual, and kinesthetic examples. Congratulations to Sue Searing for winning the ALISE 2012 Best Conference Paper Award for the second year in a row for her paper, “The Special Collection in Librarianship: Researching the History of Library Science Libraries.” Sue presented this paper at the 2012 ALISE Annual Conference which was themed “Extending Our Reach: Expanding Horizons, Creating Opportunity.” Searing’s article was recently published in the Fall 2012 issue of the Journal of Education for Library & Information Science and she will be presented with the award plaque at the ALISE 2013 Conference in January.
