Scott Schwartz Receives Edwin Franko Goldman Memorial Citation

Scott Schwartz, Archivist for Music and Fine Arts and Director of the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music, has received the Edwin Franko Goldman Memorial Citation from the American Bandmasters Association (ABA)

Edwin Franko Goldman (1878-1956) was the founder, first President, and Honorary Life President of The American Bandmasters Association. In addition to honoring Goldman’s memory, the award provides recognition to those outside the membership of the American Bandmasters Association who have rendered conspicuous service in the interest of bands and band music in America.

Sara Benson Awarded with OER Incentive Grant Funding

Sara Benson, Copyright Librarian in the Department of Scholarly Communication & Publishing, has received a $10,000 grant from the Office of the Provost as well as a $3,000 grant from the Illinois Student Government to support OER Incentive Grants for Faculty. Also sponsored by the University of Illinois Library, the OER Incentive Grant Funding aims to circumvent the high cost of textbooks, which can affect undergraduate students’ academic success and outcomes. Thus, the grant allows teaching faculty to use or create alternative lower-cost educational materials and resources.

JJ Pionke Receives The Larine Y. Cowan Make a Difference Award

JJ Pionke is an Applied Health Sciences Librarian at the Social Sciences, Health, and Education Library who received the Larine Y. Cowan Make a Difference Award within the Excellence in Access & Accommodations Category. Awarded by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, it recognizes the achievements and contributions of faculty, academic professionals, and civic service employees who made an impact in creating and maintaining an inclusive, learning, living, and working community at Illinois through teaching, research, hiring practices, advocacy, programs, and events. The award itself was created and dedicated to Dr. Larine Y. Cowan, who had made efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1982-1999, and the award reflects a commitment to human rights advocacy, social justice, and diversity.
