Antonio Sotomayor, Latin American & Caribbean Studies Librarian and Assistant Professor at the University Library at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has won the José Toribio Medina Book Award from The Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials (SALALM).

Research data practices, data services, and publishing are key themes where the library made key contributions in conference proceedings, book chapters, research articles, and more. Ayla Stein, University of Illinois Metadata Librarian and Assistant Professor, is part of a Digital Library Federation working group that has been awarded an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant that will allow the team to research the use cases and ideal functionality of a future toolkit for assessing the reuse of digital library objects in cultural heritage institutions. The grant period begins in July 2017 and will last for a year as the team conducts an extensive needs assessment.
