Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe has been elected as a member of the board of directors for the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP).

“It is an honor to contribute to SSP in this way. I envision myself with a dual-facing role: (1) working closely with the President and Executive Director and (2) connecting with and understanding the needs of the general membership. As a librarian, I will bring that vantage point to the Board’s discussions and decision-making,” said Hinchliffe.

The Society for Scholarly Publishing– SSP – was founded in 1978 and is a non-profit organization advancing communication among all sectors of the scholarly publication community through networking, information dissemination, and facilitation of new developments in the field. SSP members represent all aspects of scholarly publishing including publishers, printers, e-products developers, technical service providers, librarians, and editors. SSP members come from a wide range of large and small commercial and non-profit organizations.

Hinchliffe is Professor/Coordinator for Information Literacy Services and Instruction in the University Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is also an affiliate faculty member in the University’s School of Information Sciences. At Illinois, she has served as Acting Head of the University High School Library, Head of the Undergraduate Library, Acting Coordinator for Staff Development and Training, and Coordinator for Strategic Planning in the University Library.

As the 2010-2011 President of the Association of College and Research Libraries, she led the launch of the Value of Academic Libraries Initiative as well as the Board processes to develop a new strategic plan and re-structure the association’s committees. Previously, she was the Library Instruction Coordinator at Illinois State University and Reference Librarian at Parkland Community College. Hinchliffe has presented and published widely on information literacy, the value of libraries, program evaluation, organizational innovation, and scholarly communications. She writes for the SSP publication, The Scholarly Kitchen.
