The first few days of class is always hard for a new transfer student. It seems like everyone else already knows where to go and what to do. Then when you show up to class it seems like all your classmates are friends! The redeeming quality about the very first day of classes is that it’s known as Syllabus Day. Every teacher in every class will go over their syllabus. Unless of course you’re in a higher level class or have an especially hard professor. Hopefully you won’t have too many of those, because no one likes work on their first day.

After the first day though? Classes start hard and fast and it doesn’t stop until the end of finals week. The only way I get through everything is to stay extremely organized. Everyone has their own way of dealing with things though. Some people focus more on the connections they make with people here, while others focus more on the learning environment. I like to think that each person can find their own style of university life if they explore what UIUC has to offer. The first couple days may seem easy, but you should take advantage of the time to get yourself ready for the coming semester. There’s so many opportunities during the first week (like Quad Day!) that you’ll be tripping over them as you walk to classes. Enjoy that time while you can, because before you know it you’ll be studying for finals wondering where all that time went.
