1970s

  • 1970 – “Rap on Quad” was held – this event was a precursor to Quad Day.
  • 1971 – “The Fountain of Diana”, a sculpture by Carl Milles, is moved from Chicago’s Time-Life building to the Illini Union
  • 1971 – With tensions running high over the Vietnam War, Quad Day is established to promote a sense of community on campus and features a talent show, a hot dog stand, and a student and faculty volleyball game. 7,000 are in attendance.
  • 1974 – IUSA, with Director Earl Finder’s support, presents their case at a hearing that IUSA should be reinstated as IUB. Board of Trustees makes IUB revise their bylaws to bring IUSA back into the organization.
  • 1976 – Robert Todd is named Director.
  • 1977 – IUSA is reincorporated back into IUB after bylaws revision.
  • 1978 – the Student Organization Resource Fee (SORF) was initiated
