Jump ARCHES Autism Challenge Planning Grant

Proposal Deadline February 25, 2019

Jump ARCHES is soliciting proposals for an Autism Challenge Planning Grants with a focus on Autism. Researchers can request a planning grant of up to $10,000.

These planning grants are awarded to assist researchers overcome logistical barriers and improve communication and collaboration for developing a full proposal in response to a Jump ARCHES RFP on the same topic in a subsequent RFP cycle. Planning grant activities may involve establishing partnerships, which may include travel, to build new technological advances fitting the Jump ARCHES program requirements.

Future Jump ARCHES cycles will consider programs specifically serving and identifying individuals with autism that have an exploratory technology or have expressed an interest in starting a program. Use of mobility platforms or other scalable technology tools will be attractive to grant reviewers.

Awardees will receive direct technical assistance from Jump ARCHES leaders and up to 10 months of funding to plan a full Jump ARCHES proposal.

Applications will be considered for any technology tools and/or training that improve learning outcomes or performance, or assist in the recognition and screening of children with autistic characteristics.

Effective proposals will:

  • Identify two Co-PIs (one from UI Engineering and one from OSF/UICOMP).
  • Define a track towards exploration of technology or technologies that create solutions for the recognition and diagnosis of autism and related syndromes.
  • Define a track towards the engagement, education, and training/treatment of children with autistic spectrum disorders.
  • Include technologies which may have the potential to lead to groundbreaking discoveries

Examples include but are not limited to AR/VR, sensors, AI, voice assisted systems, cognitive measurements, NLP, simulation, tele-interactions.

What will make your proposal stand out?

  • A story that demonstrates the impact the grant funds will make
  • Brevity goes a long way (not more than 2 pages of technical description-not included references, faculty bios, and budget justification)
  • Anticipated measurable results – how will these funds assist in building collaboration?
  • A detailed project budget – Outline the whole picture and be specific to how these funds will be administered and other funding sources obtained or in the pipeline
  • Demonstrate your plan for collaboration & the creation of a Jump ARCHES proposal
  • Organization and thoroughness of the proposal itself
  • A timeline towards the submission of a Jump ARCHES proposal

A single pdf file should be submitted that contains the entire proposal package (proposal, references, budget justification, Investigators’ CVs)

Please include the Submitting PI’s last name in the filename of the document (ex. LastName_ARCHES_Planning Grant.pdf).

Military Service Knowledge Collaborative Call For Proposals

The Military Service Knowledge Collaborative Seed Funding Program provides support to establish partnerships with Military/Veteran communities to create reciprocally beneficial relationships that result in innovative design and implementation of research. Aims of this seed program are for projects to both positively impact the health and well-being of this unique population and to facilitate the development of proposals capable of attracting external funding.
