Congratulations Dr. Tori Barnhouse!

Congratulations to Tori for successfully defending her PhD thesis, ‘Developing a biomaterial model of the bone marrow perivascular niche for the study of hematopoietic stem cells.’ Tori developed approaches to replicate vascular structure in the bone marrow to examine their effect on hematopoietic stem cell activity. She will be moving to CRISPR Therapeutics in Boston as a Postdoctoral Scientist this summer. Congrats Dr. Barnhouse!

Aliki, Alec, and Victoria won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place funding from the IGB’s Young Innovator Program

Aliki, Alec, and Victoria each won research funding to help develop and commercialize a new technology. Aliki pitched a three dimensional high-throughput array based on the mineralized collagen scaffolds for the rapid downselection of structure-property relationships. Alec pitched a gradient hydrogel platform for the regeneration of cartilage inspired by the growth plate. Victoria pitched a hydrogel platform for high-throughput glioblastoma research. Congratulations!

Congratulations Samantha for winning the SFB STAR award!

Congratulations to Samantha for winning the Society for Biomaterials 2021 Annual Meeting STAR award! The Student Travel Achievement Recognitions (STARs) recognize research excellence and develop future leaders within the Society for Biomaterials. Samantha won the STAR award with her amazing abstract and presentation titled “A Gelatin Hydrogel Model of the Endometrium and Trophoblast Invasion”.

Congratulations Dr. Marley Dewey!

Congratulations to Marley for successfully defending her PhD thesis, ‘Modification of mineralized collagen scaffolds to overcome challenges of craniomaxillofacial bone repair.’ Marley transformed our efforts to create shape-fitting materials for bone repair. She constantly impressed us with her striking images connecting art with science. She will be moving on to a postdoc with Prof. Stephen Badylak at the University of Pittsburgh. We are so proud of her and will miss her very much! Congrats Dr. Dewey!
