About Me

IMG_7180Hi there! I am Abhishek Gupta, currently a postdoc in Electrical Engineering at USC. I completed my Ph.D. in Aerospace Department at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before coming to UIUC, I completed my undergraduate in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India. I completed my schooling from Rashtriya Indian Military College at Dehradun. You can download my CV from this link.

I work on theoretical problems in Stochastic Control theory, Game Theory, Optimization and Information theory. I am drawn to these fields because of my inclination towards mathematics, particularly functional analysis.

In my MS thesis, I worked on security of cyber-physical systems and analyzed two zero-sum games dealing with denial-of-service attacks and deception attack on control system.

The title of my Phd thesis is “Dynamic Sequential Decision Problems with Asymmetric Information: Some Existence Results“. The thesis builds on joint work with Ashutosh Nayyar, in which we derive Nash equilibrium for games in which players have asymmetric information. Another focus area of my thesis is to show existence of optimal control strategies under non-classical information structures arising in decentralized control problems, which is a joint work with Serdar Yuksel.

I am a sport enthusiast. I represented my institute (IIT Bombay) in Swimming, Waterpolo and Hockey. I captained RIMC college team too in 2004. Apart from that, I read a lot of articles on business, economics, psychology, literature (see the leisure page). When I have a lot of free time, I usually read novels. I love hiking and I have been on many hiking trips. I have completed a 28 days Basic Mountaineering Course from Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling in 2001 and climbed upto 18000 feet.

Since my undergraduate years, I have been collecting useful links that are related to my interests and may be useful to a wider audience. Please see the collection of links here.
