Recent Trends

World coffee export and import volumes steadily increased from 2007 to 2012, according to the International Coffee Council. The leading coffee exporting countries in 2012 were led by Brazil, with Vietnam and Indonesia next, followed by Colombia and Ethiopia. The United States is the largest importer followed by Germany, Italy, Japan and France. Prices declined in 2013, mostly due to negative economic news from China  and the United  States.

Coffee prices have gone from about $2 to $1.15 – $1.20 per pound on the New York ICE Futures exchange. There is a growing demand around the world. However  due to farmers choosing more profitable crops, the next few years should be dynamic.
