Editorial Intern, Ninth Letter

ninthletterNinth Letter is a collaborative arts and literary project produced by the Graduate Creative Writing Program and School of Art & Design at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Edited and designed by faculty and students as part of the core curricula of both programs, the journal’s mission is to present original literary writing of exceptional quality, illuminated by cutting-edge graphic design. The electronic version (ninthletter.com) exists as a complement to the print publication rather than as a digital replica.The website also features original digital art, as well as audio and video podcasts of material related both to the print publication and to arts and humanities events in Urbana-Champaign and the surrounding region.

Successful applicants are required to enroll in English 199: Internship Seminar (an online one-credit, second-8-week course that begins March 12, 2018).

Primary duties will include reading and evaluating manuscript submissions of fiction and/or poetry, along with regular attendance of editorial meetings. Other duties may include:

  • Proofreading
  • Copyediting
  • General clerical duties as required

You will learn how a literary journal gets put together and you will get familiar with the variety of moving parts that go into any periodical publication.
