Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant Communication Intern

Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant (IISG) is a program at the University of Illinois that combines research, outreach, and education to empower southern Lake Michigan communities to secure a healthy environment and economy. We provide information on a number of critical issues in the region—pollution prevention, aquatic invasive species, climate change, stormwater management, and water supply—to name a few.

We are looking for a student who is interested in natural resource issues (previous knowledge not necessary) to help the communication team share information on program activities and Great Lakes news.

Depending on the intern’s strengths, interests, and time, this position can include:

  • Writing posts for Lakeside Views (lakesideviews.blogspot.com), the program blog. This likely includes interviewing program specialists about their projects.
  • Providing support for blog posts through research.
  • Copy editing program publications and web pages.
  • Writing and forwarding social media posts and tweets.

This is a paid position: $8.75/hour. The intern can also get academic credit for the internship by enrolling in ENGL 199-INT (Internship Seminar).   Hours (4 – 6/week) can be flexible during the work week.    To apply for this position, send a resume, cover letter, and 1- to 3-page writing sample by 5pm on Jan.22 to Irene Miles (miles@illinois.edu).
