Victorian Poetry Night:

The ESC is having a Victorian poetry night on Tuesday, March 16th from 7:00-8:00 p.m.! In celebration of Women’s History Month, bring your favorite Victorian poetry or novel excerpt to read and discuss them together! Feel free to dress up in your favorite corset or Victorian outfit, and bring a friend! All are welcome.  See entry above for zoom link.

Inaugural LAS Social Innovation Forum:

The Inaugural LAS Social Innovation Forum will be held on Saturday, March 20 at 10am via Zoom. Participants of the LAS Global Leaders Program will share their research and solutions to refugee integration and Covid-19 mitigation in Illinois, Brazil, and Kenya. Christopher Earney – Head of the UN Secretary General’s Crisis Insights Team – will offer the keynote address. All who are interested can register for the event here.

Deadline for Participating in the Undergraduate Research Symposium:

Golden Apple Scholarship Meeting:

The Recruitment Team at Golden Apple are hosting Virtual Scholar Information Sessions this month. Every Tuesday, up until March 30th starting at 6:00pm, they will offer a 30-minute presentation for prospective Scholars. In the flyer you will see a link to the registration form. When a student submits a registration, they will follow up with a confirmation email that contains the meeting link.

National & International Scholarships Program Information Session:

In late March and early April, the National and International Scholarships Program will be hosting information sessions for undergraduate students across colleges and fields to learn about some nationally competitive scholarship opportunities. Information Sessions for juniors and seniors (students graduating before August 2022) will be held the week of March 22nd.  Information sessions will focus on how to apply for June priority application deadlines, including many scholarships for study or research beginning in the fall of 2022.

1-Credit Hour Courses:

A number of 1-credit hour courses on various intergroup relations dialogue topics are available now. These courses are highly interactive and encourage students to think and discuss challenging social issues with each other in order to promote collaborative sense-making and learning.

Beginning the week of March 22, students meet once a week to view and discuss video clips, participate in structured exercises, and talk with each other about issues related to social identity, social change & social justice.

Dialogue courses being offered this semester include:

  • Being White in a Multicultural Society: Tuesdays 5:00-6:60 pm (CRN 69983)
  • Liberal/Conservative Dialogue: Mondays 3:00-4:50 pm (CRN 50836)
  • Exploring Gender Identity Dialogue: Mondays 10:00-11:50 am (CRN 50833)
  • Exploring Disability Dialogue: Mondays 5:00-6:50 pm (CRN 58703)
  • Race/Ethnicity Dialogue A: Tuesdays 12:00-1:50 pm (CRN 50841)
  • Race/Ethnicity Dialogue B: Wednesdays 5:00-6:50 pm (CRN 50834)
  • Resisting Marginalization (figuring out ways to promote fairness and social justice): Wednesdays 3:00-4:50 pm (CRN 50835)
Applications for the OVCDEI Broadening Inclusion Grant:

The OVCDEI Broadening Inclusion Grant seeks proposals for innovative projects that strive to engage across disciplines and perspectives in hope of creating a more inclusive and just society. For Summer and Fall 2021, proposals that seek to bring together members of our community from different cultural and religious backgrounds and perspectives will be given a priority.
