One day at the computer help desk at The Urbana Free Library, Kim helped an elderly man log onto a computer and then print. Since this was Kim’s first day, she was figuring these things out alongside him, which she thinks was very beneficial as they ran into problems and got frustrated together. He kept apologizing for “wasting” her time, to which she answered that there was no need to apologize because she was there to help him. It made her sad that he felt like he was wasting her time, but she guesses all she can do is continue to offer help, insisting that she wants to help, and convey that technology is frustrating in general, not just for him. She thinks her encouragement was helpful as he got his second document to print on his own and proudly came over to show her.
