John Day Fitzwater

John Day Fitzwater, bass-baritone’s most recent engagements have included Il Re in Handel’s Ariodante and The Messiah. He has performed with the ArtPark Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Chamber Opera, Western New York Opera Theater, Whitewater Opera, Buffalo Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony, Sunset Players, The Footlighters, Northwest Symphony and was in the cast of the American premier of Phillip Glass’ Satyagraha at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

John has been active both in front and behind the scenes including: directing and producing as well as set and lighting design and construction for both opera and theater. He serves on the Executive Board of the Cincinnati Chamber Opera.

He holds Bachelor and Masters degrees from Northwestern University, in voice, with additional concentration in opera production.

John has been a volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, The American Red Cross and Give Back Cincinnati, among others. He also enjoys backpacking/hiking, cycling and photography. He and his wife Lynn have four adult children, two dogs and 3 cats.
