Professional Development Fund

The Black Faculty and Professionals Alliance Leadership Team is prioritizing professional growth for the membership and is offering $250 to help support attendance at a professional development opportunity.  One award will be selected by lottery according to the following process. 

Eligible Faculty and Staff   

All current University of Illinois BFAPA dues-paid members who are current employees of Illinois. 

Allowable Use  

The awards may be used for University allowable expenses, including:  

  • Conference, Seminar, Training, or Workshop registration fees, either on or off campus  
  • Travel expenses, including Flights, Taxis, Trains, Buses, or Subways  
  • Toll road charges or Parking charges  
  • Lodging and Meals

Submit your application by 5 pm for the following time frames: 

  • Spring (open 3/1- 3/31) for travel between 1/1 and 6/30 
  • Fall (open 10/1-10/31) for travel between 7/1 and 12/31 

All completed applications will be entered into the lottery, with the drawing to be held the day after applications close. 

  • Awardee will receive an award letter, including further instructions about how you will be reimbursed for professional development costs. 
  • Select a training, workshop, or conference of interest, and make arrangements and payment. 
  • After travel or training is complete, you will submit a receipt(s) that exceed the $250 award limit. Instructions will be shared with award winners.  
  • Awardees will be recognized at the Annual BFAPA recognition event. 
  • Awardees will briefly share their experiences during a general meeting. 

Timeline: twice a year, Fall and Spring   

  • Application open window (dates may vary slightly in some years due to holidays): November 1-30, March 1-31 

Review   

Award notification: No later than one week after the application deadline 

Award Limits  

Each BFAPA Member shall be eligible to receive a maximum of one award every two fiscal years. 

Individual awards will not exceed $250, unless there are unusual circumstances.
