Change Log – 2017-2018

Starting in October 2016, we began implementing Moodle updates on a rolling basis. Non-breaking changes are now implemented as soon as they are completed, allowing us to bring the best version of Moodle to you as soon as we can. This page tracks changes for the 2017-2018 Academic Year.

November 17, 2017 – v3.3-ui1

  • Upgraded to Moodle 3.3 – Full change information is available here
  • Summary:
    • Changed default settings in several activities to increase usability
    • Enabled “Timed Posts” for forums, so that instructors can schedule announcements and other posts.
    • Enabled “Quiz Auto-saving” on a permanent basis so that student work is consistently saved during quiz attempts
    • Enabled “Stealth mode” to allow activities to be set to “Available but not shown on course page”, which will replace Orphaned Activities
    • Database upgrades to allow for Emoji Support, so that work is not lost due to being rejected by database
    • File server upgrade to allow for faster and more reliable service
    • Minor display fixes

November 8, 2017 – v3.2-ui21

  • Upgraded to weekly stable release of Moodle 3.2.5
  • Fixed display issue in Attendance module when used with “Students self-record attendance” and a password
  • Enabled pilot of Auto-saving in Quizzes to monitor performance prior to upgrade

  • Changed administrative setting to populate Middle Name field (for reporting purposes only)

October 25, 2017 – v3.2-ui19

  • Upgraded to weekly stable release of Moodle 3.2.5
  • Upgraded back-end PDF conversion tool so that PDF conversions for Assignments run more smoothly.
  • Added “Templates” to Course Request System, so you can make a new course site with some existing structure, making it easier to get started using Moodle

October 18, 2017 – v3.2-ui18

  • Updated the UI Activity Grader to work properly when switching to a new linked forum or being newly created and linked to a forum with existing posts
  • Fixed issue where the links at the top of the page would become invisible if tab-focused
  • Changed table headers in Pages, Labels, and Section Summaries to include underlines when links are present
  • Fixed display issue where “Send” link was wrong color on Messages interface

October 11, 2017 – v3.2-ui17

  • Upgraded to weekly stable release of Moodle 3.2.5
  • Updated the UI Activity Grader to do a better job processing submissions into PDFs
  • Added the “Scheduler” Activity
    • Scheduler allows instructors to set up time slots for students to book appointments with them
    • Use cases: One-on-one appointments with students, Office Hours sign-up, Presentation Sign-ups for face-to-face courses

October 4, 2017 – v3.2-ui16

  • Changed editing period from 30 minutes to 15 minutes
  • Upgraded Attendance activity to the newest version
  • Changed default settings of Attendance activity to increase usability
    • 100 students displayed by default (vs. 25)
    • Disabled calendar entries for Attendance activities

September 27, 2017 – v3.2-ui15

  • Upgraded to weekly stable release of Moodle 3.2.5
  • Changed string for assignments with no submission types to be clearer
  • Updated text on the Log-in Page to reflect new contact information
  • Upgraded Quickmail block to newest version
  • Fixed display bug with forums divided into groups
  • Fixed display bug when accessing an OU Wiki with Editing on
  • Implemented first round of display fixes for Message interface

  • Fixed display bug of Grade Items when using Single View to display a student’s grades
  • Added the ability to use spaces in tab names on the “MyMoodle page”
  • Fixed display bug with “Cancel” button when embedding using Illinois Media Space
  • Fixed display bug on the “Notifications” page that resulted in inconsistencies when hovering

August 30, 2017 – v3.2-ui13

  • Enabled “Non-teaching editor” role
    • Non-teaching editors can edit almost any page, as well as the Gradebook Setup, but cannot see enrolled users, grades, or forum posts. This role can be used by undergraduates who are helping to prepare course sites or by anyone who would like to add an editor to their course site who cannot see grades.
  • Enabled Recording Downloads for Blackboard Collaborate Ultra
    • Note that these cannot be turned off on a per-video basis. Ultimately, we determined that enabling the recordings globally was preferable to keeping all recordings disabled, since there is no per-video or per-course option.
