    Dr. Margarita Teran-Garcia

    Margarita Teran-Garcia is an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at the Urbana-Champaign campus and Extension Specialist in Hispanic Health Programs. Her research and outreach focus on prevention of obesity and obesity related diseases by implementing tailored nutrition and education interventions in disadvantaged populations.

Andiara Schwingel is an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at the Urbana-Champaign campus where she teaches in the area of international health and gerontology. For the past ten years, her work has focused on the effects of lifestyle on health and chronic disease. She is currently investigating ways to promote health in the US Latino population in partnership with community volunteers and faith-based organizations.

  • Jennifer McCaffrey, PhD, RD, Extension and Outreach
    Jennifer McCaffrey is Assistant Dean, Family Consumer Sciences for the Extension and Outreach department at University of Illinois Urbana – Champaign. She specializes in program development and implementation of obesity prevention programs for low income families, especially utilizing the community health worker model.
  • Elizabeth Villegas, Human Development and Family Studies Development Student   (Graduate Associate for Promatora Project, Abriendo Caminos Project)

    Elizabeth Villegas

    Elizabeth Villegas is a doctoral student in the department of Human Development and Family studies. She enjoys traveling and seeing the world as well as being a part of different cultures and people. She gained experience working in a school in South America and has worked with youth and children for several years. Her pursuits are to promote health, wellness, and family support in under-served populations.
